one night getaway outside of paris

I posted this earlier, but can't find it in the france section. So here goes again.
My fiancee and I will be in Paris for Dec. 21-27. We want to spend a day or two outside of Paris in a nearby city/region. I was thinking of Reims, Chartes, Rouen, etc. We wanted to go to the Loire Valley, but feel as if we won't have time. Any suggestions on these locations?

Actually I see you've posted this question a couple of times. If you have trouble finding your previous post. Simply go to the upper left hand corner of this page and click on your name next to where it says "welcome". It will bring up all your earlier posts. Sometimes the search function won't work until they "catalog" posts which may be a week or more. You have 7 responses to your earlier question.

You have about three messages all asking the same questions. It would be easier for you and for those trying to respond if you would keep everything on one message. Chartres is nice, Amboise is lovely - the Loire is not too far. You need to be concerned about the weather at this time of year so the hotel you choose is important.

I recommend taking the train to Reims, staying at the Boyer, tour a champagne house or two, have dinner at the Boyer - perfect quick get away outside of Paris.

I topped the thread for you, but, as mentioned, you can click on your own name to find your posts.

Have a great time.

You have plenty of time to visite the Loire Valley. You can head to Blois or Amboise - it's only around 2 hours by train. From either city you can visit chateaux nearby or the ones in the city. Do a search for my trip report.

Next visit to the Loire I am going to try for a stay at Le Cheval Blanc, a **hotel in Blere [near Tours]. We had a wonderful dinner there this past trip, thanks to recommendations from St Cirq and others.

We did a day trip to Rouen, and liked the city very much. There is so much to see. Pity we could not stay.

Hello, crcash, are you out there? I see that you returned today and posted another new post. Are you checking out this one? If so, are you going to comment. It seems futile for us to keep answering posts if you're not coming back to check them out, either thanking those who responded, or asking for further comments.

If you are headed to Reims - definitely consider the Boyer - we have celebrated Thanksgiving there for the last 5 years and absolutely love the place (even though Gerard Boyer, the 3 star chef, has left.) It used to be owned byt he Princess de Pomerey and the Pomerey champagne house is across the street. I loved the champagne houses - but one of my favorites was Tattinger. Have a great time. We are going back for Thanksgiving again this year!

Have you considered Senlis? A beautiful medieval village outside Paris. Easily accessible.

Rick from Maryland.

crcash, I too recommend Reims as an excellent location for a day or two outside of Paris. It has a wonderful Gothic cathedral that was the coronation site of most French kings, a number of delightful places to sample champagne, and some excellent hotels and restaurants. If your budget allows, an overnight at Les Crayères with dinner in its Michelin-starred restaurant is a wonderful splurge. http://www.gerardboyer.com/

Not quite as expensive, but also not exactly in the budget category, I'd recommend staying at the Grand Hôtel des Templiers http://www.jpmoser.com/grandhoteldestempliers.html with dinner at Le Foch. http://www.lefoch.com
