one evening in Paris

We have a layover in Paris. The flight gets in at 5pm, and we leave the next morning at 11am. We have a hotel near the Champs Elysee. And, my friend has never been in Paris. What would you recommend for our one evening? Does anyone know of a tour that would show us the City of Lights?
How about an authentic Parisian restaurant?
Thank you for your help

Porbably get to hotel around...7PMish. I would head over to the Left bank, near Notre Dame, have dinner, then take the Vedettes du Pont Neuf Seine cruise. Afterwards, wander the Left bank area, St Gemrin Blvd, have a drink, go to a jazz club,eyc..

St Germain would be the proper spelling.
A few threads here if you search on 'paris jazz clubs' (Caveau de la Huchette for example)

Where is there a good jazz club near Notre Dame or in that vicinity?

Is it too late to change your hotel? The Champs Elysées area is one of the most sterile in Paris and to have any fun you'll be spending precious time getting elsewhere and back. I'd cancel and find a room the 6ème.

The Champs-Elysees and the 6th are only a river apart, it doesn't make any difference IMO, it's only a short metro ride away whatever you do.

There are some bus tour companies that have a night-time lights of Paris tour which you might enjoy (seeing all the monuments and buildings that are lit up). Check Parisvision and Cityrama, but they don't start until kind of late in the summer.

Have you asked your friend what he or she would like to do or see?
