We are interested in one day trips to Umbria and Pompeii/Amalfi coast. Can anyone recommend reliable tour companies? We will be there in late December.

Where in Umbria? You can easily hop a train and be in Orvieto in an hour.
AS far as I know, it seems most tour companies to Amalfi or Naples involved long stay at shops, it might be easier to get on
the train and do the day trip on your own.

We did Ostia Antica as a day trip from Rome, it took about 45 minutes to get there. Orvieto is also 1 hour train ride away. Umbria and Amalfi are too far in my opinion for a day trip from Rome.
