Ok, my preliminary Rome itinerary - feedback please!

Jump to last reply

I am firming up my 6 day Rome itinerary and would be delighted to get some feedback on feasibility and ways to make the most of my time. This is my first time to Rome and my husband's second (he was there decades ago with his college architecure class so not sure that even counts ;) We are arriving by train at approx 7pm on Monday, May 6. We will be coming from a 5 night stay in Venice, with a day stop in Florence.

Day 1: arrive 7pm; taxi to hotel (http://www.residenzacanali.com)
Day 2 morning: Colosseum/Forum/Palatine Hill tour with Walks Of Italy (3.5 hrs)
Day 2 afternoon: ??
Day 3 morning: Campo de Fiori/Jewish Ghetto
Day 3 afternoon: Borghese Gallery/gardens; piazza del popolo
Day 4 morning: Vatican/St Peter's Basilica tour with Walks of Italy (3.5 hrs)
Day 4 afternoon: Castel Sant Angelo then Travestere area
Day 5 morning: Panthenon & area churches
Day 5 afternoon: churches (san giovanni/san clemente/santa maria mag/santa maria degli angeli)
Day 6: ??

I want to fit it St Peter In Chains and also the Cap Crypts somewhere but not sure best fit. I am hoping to have some leisure lunches and nice evenings with dinners, strolling, etc. I can't say we are foodies or art fanatics but rather just looking to enjoy the culture, sites, atmosphere, and good wine and food!

How does this preliminary itinerary look? Too busy? Backtracking? Anything missing you would suggest I add? Thank you!!
