Oh my - we're really going to Ireland!
I can't believe it. After years of planning, hoping, and continually getting derailed due to family crises, illness, etc., I booked our air today!!!
We're flying non-stop on Aer Lingus from Orlando to Dublin, dates are May 3 - May 19, 2016. It was a pleasant surprise to discover I could just pay a deposit today to book our flights, with the balance due Jan. 4.
I have accommodations booked everywhere except Dublin (1st three nights and the last night) and I'm working on narrowing down the list.
We don't necessarily need to be walking distance to major sights, but being very close to airport bus and HOHO bus stops is extremely important, as is having a lift.
Buswell's has been suggested (a little costly with breakfast, but still in the running). Any thoughts? Any special hotel to spend the last night around Dublin? Our plane doesn't depart until 2 PM and we'll arrive by bus the day before from Cashel.
As you might guess, I'm just over the moon with excitement that my dream is finally coming true!!!

Is that the flight that leaves mco at 8 pm? Great timing for an overnight. We left our apartment at 11:00 and took bus to airport in plenty of time. Nice duty free before you go to your gate. Still give yourself 2.5 to 3 hours.
There is a travel lodge by St Stephen's green that is very basic or try Jury's by Christ Church or the Harding. Great pub in the Harding hotel. We did not do breakfast at Buswell's hotel. so many little place to have breakfast in the area. There was a tea kettle in room.
three days you might want a leap card, good for buses and tram and dart.

The Leap Visitor Card is €19.50 and offers 72 hours of unlimited travel on Dublin Bus (including the 747 Airlink), Luas (tram) and rail services. This is great value if you use the Airlink as effectively you then get 3 days travel for €7.50. You can only buy a Leap Visitor card at Dublin Airport - see list of stockists below.
The 1 Day Family Rambler is €12.65 and valid for one-day travel on Dublin Bus (only) for a family of two adults and two children aged under 16. This is particularly good value if you use the Airlink, e.g. on the day of your arrival or departure. You don't need to have children, just 2 adults will do!
The 5 Day Adult Ramber is €27.50 and valid for unlimited travel on Dublin Bus (only) for 5 non-consecutive days. Again this is good value if you use the Airlink and you do a lot of travel by bus on the other days.
A large variety of other passes is available, though most are aimed at commuters rather than tourists. This page on boards.ie has a comprehensive list of all the time-based tickets available.
We buy the 72 hour one and think the last time we did have to buy a return to the airport. It starts when you first use it so the 72 hour one would be good for those three days you are in Dublin. If you walk a lot and are using hoho buses then I would not bother. We love it because we go to Glasnevin and take the dart to Howth and last trip we stayed over by Christ Church so the luas was nice for getting around town. Buses are easy to use also.
