We are heading to Europe in October. We would like to travel to a warm place.
Any suggestions? We were thinking southern Italy and Greece or ?

I went to Rome and Naples (and a couple surrounding areas) 2nd week of October a few years ago and the weather was at least 25 degrees, in the 30's (celcius - no idea what that is in fahrenheit
) by the time we got to Capri. That's warm weather for a Canuck!
Anyway, what are you guys interested in doing - just sit at a beach and relax, or do you like to be on the go; museums, sightseeing, etc?
A little bit of both. We've been to Italy and Greece. I just couldn't think of another warm location to go to. We usually travel in the Spring.
My honey has never been to Switzerland or Germany which
would be nice, but I am concerned about the weather.
Thoughts?
Central Portugal was blazing hot when I was there a couple of years ago at the beginning of October - 85 to 90F almost every day.
25 to 30 C is 77 to 85 degrees F.
You should probably describe what you mean by "warm" as to me it means 70F.
70's would be nice. I loved Portugal. I went with my
cousin last year. Germany and Switzerland would be cold????
Umbria was pool weather pretty much all through October last time I was there. I doubt Germany and Switzerland would be hot, but could be warm (probably with cool evenings).
You can go online and check historical weather patterns (not that that is really anything to go by).
Sorry, can't help with either Switzerland or Germany. Although, if this helps, I was in Budapest last October (first week) and the weather was in the 30's (uhh 85 degrees F), by the time we got to Krakow & Warsaw in the 2nd week it was cold, like around 5-10 degrees C. I say cold because I wasn't prepared with any warm wear. (Budapest is around the same longitude as Munich, Warsaw is around the same as Berlin)
Depending on how much time you guys have, perhaps start in Germany then find a cheap flight to somewhere warm?
Depending when in October the weather in Germany and Switzerland might start to get damp and rainy. That doesn't bother some people but I hate it. There's no predicting if it will be sunny, warm, cool, or rainy.
How about Sicily?
jomagpie - you just missed the good weather in Poland. The first week in October the nights were cool but not cold and the days were warm enough - a light jacket at most and I usually went out in shirt sleeves during the day.
@adrienne: Krakow was ok the first couple days, but then it got rainy and cold after. I think we were there around the same time last year
I was in Frankfurt when it turned damp and rainy. Definitely affected my perception of my last few days of vacation.
Jill - October can definitely be iffy in the northern climes.
Sicily !
I was in Barcelona the first week last October, and the weather was fantastic. Not too hot, not too cold (around 70-80 F daytime).
Yes, how about Spain? Barcelona and points south. Lots of good beaches there.
Andalusia, Spain? Good sightseeing, beaches, and weather.
Last year we were in the Amalfi Coast in October. The weather was wonderful. I go back to Amalfi, but would
like to see something new. We love to sightsee and
sit and watch people.
