October Ireland Itinerary

Jump to last reply

I've been stalking this Ireland board for a bit now and finally posting. My husband and I are planning our honeymoon to Ireland and would appreciate some thoughts on our possible itinerary. We land in Shannon on Oct. 17 in the AM and we'll fly back home on Oct. 25--so about 8 full days. We'll be renting a car and driving. I'd love some thoughts, suggestions, anything. As of now, we only have flights booked, so we are open, but wanting to book accommodations asap. We want to have a scenic, local, authentic, relaxed trip with good food and drinks along the way :-)

Day 1: Arrive in Shannon, Drive to Galway. Stay night in Galway.
Day 2: Day trip to Connemara. Stay night in Galway.
Day 3: Ferry to Aran Islands and stay overnight there.
Day 4: Cliffs of Moher. Head somewhere southwest of Shannon for an overnight. Suggestions on where?
Day 5-7: We'd like to base ourselves somewhere central to lots of day trip options for these days. Maybe somewhere like Kenmare or Killarney? Possible day trips to Dingle, ROK, Killarney National Park, etc.
Day 8: Staying the last night somewhere close to Shannon airport for our flight out the following morning. Maybe Bunratty or Ennis?

We don't want to overload ourselves with crazy long drives, though I know that the 4th day will be. This is our first trip to Ireland, but we want to take time to see things and know that that doesn't mean we have to see it ALL this trip.

Thanks for any thoughts!
