October in CT

This may be a silly question, but why are hotel rates at super high season levels for October 4-11? What is it about this week that I'm missing?

sgerhar1 - If you are referring to Connecticut, then, #1 - you are in the wrong thread. Try posting it on the United States one and you'll probably get more responses.

#2 - If you ARE referring to Connecticut, then it's probably because Oct. 4-11 is a beautiful time of year in the Northeast with the leaves changing.

#3 - If you AREN'T referring to Connecticut, then I haven't a clue what you are talking about!

Are the rates lower the week before?

It's a beautiful time to be in le Cinque Terre, and like Venezia, the five towns now are so famous and get such a crush of tourists, they don't have to lower their rates to fill their hotels.

That said, you don't have to pay a lot to get clean and comfortable accommodations, even with sea views, in le Cinque Terre. Don't imagine you need a 4-star or even a 3-star. A 2-star will be perfectly charming, clean, friendly and with its own private bathroom.

Likewise, consider staying in neighboring Levanto or just about anywhere on the train line near the five towns.

The International Boat Show is in Genoa October 4 -12th:

Probably the further you get away from Genoa, the easier and cheaper it will be to get hotel rooms.

I actually saw higher rates for this week in SML as well, such as Metropole. This isn't across the board with all hotels. Just seemed curious as the surrounding weeks are lower.

Yes, lovisa's got it. I forgot. Salone Nautica.

Some towns along the coast don't have marinas, but I would think you'll running into high prices all the way to La Spezia. If you're not willing to pay the premium, you might try Bonassola and maybe Sestri Levante. And compare prices among the five towns themselves.

Thanks lovisa. Now I know to try to look other than places near marinas. I'll look in the towns you suggest zeppole.
