October Honeymoon

Hi there - I'm looking for some October honeymoon inspiration. Europe based, obviously!

We've mostly focused our attention on Italy and Greece, but we're finding that a lot of the hotels seem to close mid October. We'll be married in the last days of September and we are hoping to travel in the first week of October, hopefully before the 4th.

Being Irish we'd count anything above 16 degrees as a hot day, though we would love to get some sun, have some relaxation time, plenty of good food and drink, maybe coastal if possible.

If anyone has traveled in Europe during this time of year and come across nice places, with nice weather, I'd be grateful to hear about your experiences!

Are you looking exclusively at coastal destinations? Because otherwise no reason to think hotels in Italy would be closed in October--that is still very much high season in a lot of places. Of course no once can predict the weather, but I would think in early October, you have a reasonable expectation of nice weather--though certainly not beach weather.

the French Riviera and Portugal and southern Spain - and of course much of Italy- and if you want to travel around trains are great (unlike Ireland) - for lots on trains and where to go with them check www.budgeteuropetravel.com - great online European Planning & Rail Guide covers lots of places to go with them- www.ricksteves.com and www.seat61.com.

But I guess with just a week you want to base one place -Venice will be warm to you and to me is the ultimate honeymoon city - split time between it and Rome perhaps.

But Nice would be nice too as would the Greek islands.

To me Italy would have the most all together if not just wanting a seaside area- Venice and Rome my suggestion.

We've been to Venice quite recently. Had thought about a few days in Rome, then heading further south - maybe Sardinia, Sicily, Puglia? Any idea what Tuscany is like early October?

Thanks for the suggestions so far!

Tuscany would be nice in early October as would the Amalfi Coast and of course Sicily would be warmer yet but to do it proper would really need more days.

Why don't you consider Barcelona + Mallorca?

I think we're settled in Sardinia. We have been to Spain a few times, so it would be great to see somewhere new.
I think we are looking at staying in a few agriturismi and travelling around a little.

Thanks for the inputs!
