We will be in Lisbon and want to do a day trip to one of these places. Which one would you recommend. are both very similar. Technically we could do both, but that would take out a day from Lisbon. We usually prefer travelling by trains, (less motion sickness for our little ones) but i hear a bus is a better option to these places.

We stayed overnight in both and preferred Evora. Obidos, although very charming, seemed to exist only for tourism and had lots of bus tours in town. Evora seemed much more "real" and was a better experience for us.We drove by car to both of them so can't help you with transportation. We loved Lisbon.
Obidos and Evora are not at all similar. I've stayed in both and would recommend Evora. Obidos is worth 2 hours at most, if you walk slowly; there is more to see in Evora, nice public garden and main square with cafes. Evora is a larger town and it's a university town. The train takes 2 hours from Lisbon to Evora where you can take a taxi to the main square and then sight see from there. The station is not far from the town but the streets are mostly cobbles and will probably be too far a walk if your children are very young or too difficult to push a stroller. The taxi is only about 5 Euros.
Cant compare the two, but have been to Obidos. It's a beautiful walled town with picturesque white-washed buildings and narrow streets. You can walk the ramparts all the way around (when you enter the main gate see stairs at left). If going to obidos from lisbon it's better to take the bus as it will drop you off right in front of the main gate. I think you would get the Metro in Lisbon to Station Jardim Zoologico (but check this out with Metro) Then get bus to Caldas da Rainha (spelling?). Transfer to bus to Obidos. But caution: find out return bus schedule because buses are less frequent later in the day. And finally, if you're going in the summer, I have only one complaint about Obidos - flies, flies, flies! They are quite a nuisance, but don't let that put you off. Obidos is well worth a visit - and take your camera!
