NY Times goes to Sicily!
Having just returned, it's fun to see this article -- and now I want to go back and go to the places I missed!

We were told a different story about the Lungomare. Having just spent 4 days there, we noticed what looked like development along the Lungomare, and asked at our hotel if cruise ships were now coming into port there.
The answer was that, although the town has been working on making room for cruise ships in the port, they have now found that they cannot bring cruise ships into the harbour, and that the harbour of Syracuse will lose its Unesco status as one of the largest natural harbours in Italy (Europe? can't remember) if the city changes the harbour in any way.
Let's hope that is true...anyways we did not see anything resembling a cruise ship there. Some cruise ships stop in Catania and do day tours to Syracuse, but generally we found it to still have that unspoiled feeling. Still a wonderful place, thursdaysd.
