NY passport office

NY passport office
Can you just walk in to NY office to renew the passport? I'm not able to get an appt from computer system. I'm leaving in 2 weeks and an agent on the phone advised me not mail in the passport as it will take 2-3 weeks even with expedite delivery.

Anya, I don't know about the NY passport office but the SF passport office can not be accessed without an appointment. I would think this rule would be the same throughout the US.
Have you called the tollfree number for the US Passport office? I is (or was some months ago) 1-877-487-2778. The are suppose to be open from 8:00am to 8:00pm Eastern time. Imagine they are closed weekends and holidays.
There are passport services that will handle this for you (for a fee of course) but I have never used one. You might check this out on Google. Best of luck.

I agree - call your Congressman's office right away. It will be resolved within a few days.
It used to be you could walk into the DC passport office and get a passport that same day - not sure if that's still the case - but the wait was hours and hours!

I had to get my daughter's passport (who was then 11 months old) quickly for a quick trip to Australia to visit my father who was terminally ill.
If NY is anything like Chicago, you will have to make an appointment to go. They will not see you if you walk up. You need to be leaving the country within two weeks, and also bring proof of your travel (i.e. tickets!!). Expedited fees still apply, so this will cost you out the wazoo. You walk in with the application, payment, photos, and tickets, and return a few hours later to pick your passport up. Plan a day trip if you don't live close to the NY office.

If you use FedEx or UPS, you should be able to get your passport back in time.
Also good advice about calling your Member of Congress. 2006 is an election year.
