November - Andalucia, Provence, Athens/Rhodes or ?
Looking for pleasant weather (60/15 deg, relatively calm winds) in the first two weeks of November. Have checked Weatherunderground for historical data and all 3 look okay. Also have a terrific airfare from Vancouver to both Nice and Marseilles (CAD $900.00 return), so Provence is leading the pack. Any comments about these three choices? Any other suggestions? Thanks, Linda

No, I don't want to be indoors all the time. I plan a combination of walking about villages, ruins, along with museums.
Underhill, I know you've travelled extensively in the south of Frances - would the Nice area have better weather than Provence (Avignon/Arles area + Luberon villages) that time of year? I could combine Nice and that area with towns north of the Cinque Terre. A thought.

Why are you going to Liguria (the towns north of Cinque Terra). In recent years, November has been fine, but if you are going to hike, you need to be aware that the hiking trails are not really walkable in wet weather -- and wet Novembers rather then dry Novembers are common.
In general, if you are visiting the Mediterranean with the idea that you can do a lot of touring outdoors and enjoy views, if not the beach, you are taking something of a risk. Aside from Nice and to some extent Genova, there are not a lot of things to enjoy along the Mediterranean coast in the absence of fine, clear weather.
Sometimes November is lovely, start to finish. Sometimes it is not.
If the airfare to someplace like Berlin or Amsterdam in November is only a few hundred loonies more, you might think about the wealth of museums and other indoor activities there, and decide if you want to risk a rainy November in Provence or Liguria.

Nice would, I think, be less risky, although there's always the chance of rain (say our friends who live near Grasse). If you haven't been to the Nice region before you'll find plenty of nice little villages, interesting small towns, and much more.
Just to get you started: St-Paul-de-Vence, Vence (old town and Matisse Chapel), Gourdon, Tourrettes-sur-Loup, Valbonne, Haut de Cagnes, Mougins, Antibes, St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Eze...the list goes on and on.

I think Provence and the Cote d'Azure in November sound just too much like where I'm from - potentially 30 days of rain.
Underhill and zeppole, have either of you travelled to Spain, specifically Andalucia, or Sicily in November (I've crossed Athens & Rhodes off my list - a long-haul with inconvenient flights for a 12 day holiday).
Zeppole, it's not that I'm so interested in hiking rather that I don't want to spend 12 days indoors.
Thanks for your help.
