Notting Hill August 26/27?
Is the Carnival only on Sunday and Monday? Was planning to go to Portobello Road and some of the shops in Westbourne Grove on either Friday or Saturday; is everything open as normal, or is it going to be too busy due to the Carnival?

Carnival is on Sun 28 and Mon 29 noon-7pm
Whether this will impact previous days?? Lots to set up - police barricades, etc. I went in 2003 and it was an uncomfortable mob scene for me though interesting. Would seem Sat would be OK?

I'd steer clear of it, it does attract a rather common element - it used to be quite fun, but these days it's more football yob style than something exotic.
You should be alright a couple of days beforehand - there isn't all that much in the way of preparation - although this year after the terror attacks things might be different.
