Not too hot and family friendly

Hi, Looking for any tips/advice. We are planning a family holiday in July/August with 2 parents, 2 children under 10 and mother in law. We are looking for somewhere not too hot, with a beach, something for the children and preferably somewhere we can fly to as the children have never been on a plane! I would really appreciate any suggestions from all you experienced travellers. Thanks.

Where are you coming from?
This would impact the where you go as you would be advised to have a direct flight if possible.. beaches are all around for your enjoyment, the Med (hot!!) Atlantic, (varied and many)Adriatic and so on.. You choose the area and Fodorites will undoubtibly fill in the blanks.

Can you fly direct to San Sebastion or Bilboa? Great beaches and ambience. Are you renting a car?..Many beach towns/villages around there. Spain is a very kid friendly country. French Basque area is also. BCN is another choice..Beaches right in the city. Gives you both the city ambiance and the beach..The Algarve will be very hot, crowded, touristy but doable with, I believe direct flights, to several spots. What interests are dominate in your group and how old are the kids and M-I-L ?? Again impacting. My 1st choice for my own doing would be SS/Basque area, 2nd--BCN, either city or Sitges (quick train trip) and lastly Algarve..With a car and not inhibited by a drive from Lisbon..Porto Cova would stand out waving a gteen flag but kids in a car in the heat??? Choices, choices, choices.. Happy trails!!!

Or maybe Denmark. Beautiful beaches in Denmark and lovely holiday homes too.
Of course you cannot be sure of good beach weather in either Germany or Denmark (or in the Netherlands or Belgium - both of which also have gorgeous beaches as well).

Maybe you should look at the Atlantic coast of France, or, odd as it sounds, the Canary Islands, or Madeira which tend to have more even temperatures year round.

Gdansk, Gdynia and Sopot in Poland - they're certainly Brit-friendly considering all the Brits who fly in. And they're in northern Poland, so you won't get hideously hot weather (which is what? 25C to a Brit?)

Gdansk is the main city, the others are nearby (Sopot is the beach town, Gdynia is the nightlife).
