Try the hotel Le Central, 21 rue Berthelog, 37000 Tours, phone 02-47-05-46-44 fax: 02-47-66-10-26. This is off the main blvd. and close to everything! It's actually a Best Western, but has it's charm of a very nice pensione. We paid in Oct '97 $62 per night, twin beds with a nice size bathroom on the top floor (4th) with a great view of the Cathedral and roof tops of the town, tv.

I stayed at the IBIS town center location in Tours. Fairly cheaply. Room small but very clean. Easy to reserve in US at 1800 NOVOTEL.
Was within walking distance of train station as well as old town. Had a parking garage and it only cost about $5 to park the car there overnight.

The Chateau-Hotel de Beaulieu in Joue-les-Tours, just outside of Tours, is wonderful and reasonably priced. It is a manor house, not really a castle. The rooms a big and pleasant -- kind of like a big grandmother's house. The setting is exquisite and the restaurant is superlative. My guess is $100 a night, give or take. Well worth it.
