Norway night train questions for Norway in a nutshell

I will only have very limited time to visit Oslo and Bergen so to do the Norway in a nutshell on my own, I have booked an overnight train from Oslo arriving in Bergen at 7:00 am. I return from Bergen to Oslo at 11:57 am to get back to my ferry on time.

My question is that I still really wanted to do flam to Gudvangen to voss and am wondering if the night train stops at Myrdal and if I would be allowed to leave the train at Myrdal to catch the train to Flam and Ferry to Gudvangen (two hours) and then train to Voss and train to Bergen in time to catch scenic route back from Bergen in time for 11:57 am train?

Or will I be satisfied with skipping the middle part and doing just Oslo-Bergen-Oslo. I will be taking a Dss ferry from Copenhagen to Oslo so I'm hoping that may be scenic. Suggestions? I'll be in Norway may 27-29 and then Stockholm may 30 and 31st w sleeper train back to Copenhagen June 1 and 2nd

By looking at the timetable, the earliest ferry leaves at 8 AM and arrives 10 AM in Gudvangen. Is there any way to pick up the return train from Voss or another stop as it doesn't seem I would have time to make it all the way to Voss and then to Bergen before it leaves?

I'm so torn!

You won't find much transport in the middle of the night at Myrdal!
Get back to what ferry on time?
If you are arriving in Oslo on the ferry from Copenhagen then take the 12:03 train to Flåm arriving 18:10. Stay overnight in Flåm then take 09:00 ferry to Gudvangen, and 11:40 bus to Voss arriving 12:55. You can then pick up the train to Oslo at 13:13 arriving 19:07. This is the same train that departs Bergen at 11:59.

Sure you can get on anywhere or off anywhere - however if your ticket is from Bergen to Oslo and you do not show up in Bergen you could be a no show and any reserved seat may be given to others- anyway for lots on the Nutshell and night trains and European trains in general check www.seat61.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.

dyoll is an absolute expert on Scandinavian trains - so take his/her word to the bank. I think he/she must live in Norway to be so well informed on that.

To me this is all a little hurried - the Oslo to Bergen train line is one of the top scenic lines in Europe for sure so that part in the daytime will be sweet and if in summer the nights are long too. Norwegian trains are tops so I'm sure the night train will be comfy but there is always a modicum of noise on night trains from outside the train - light sleepers may arrive wiped out in the morning.
