Norway Itinerary

Hello,

We are a family of 3, me my wife and 5 years old daughter, we plan to visit Norway for the first time, I've made much research on stuff that can excite us and especially our kids, while Norway is all about scenery and amazing nature, we found some stuff that could make our kid excited such as horse riding, amusement park, boat sailing..etc

I've come up with the below itinerary, but want to know if you think each place we will visit is unique and will give a special experience, i'm open for suggestions.

5 days in Oslo

3 days in Kristiansand

4 days in Stravenger

4 days in Bergin

3 days in Flam

2 days in Geiranger

Also I don't know if they are in the right order in terms of transportation and time efficiency, we will be arriving in Oslo in mid July and staying in Norway for 21 days.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks

You going by car or train - there is a ferry from Stavenger to Bergen.

If by train check www.seat61.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com for lots of info.

I would suggest renting a car to reach places outside of main cities - there is a dense enough bus system but for the adventure spots you indicate a car would be nicer.

Don't miss the ancient mummified bogman in a museum just south of Bergen.

I was in Norway at the beginning of June.

Oslo: loved the city but you may need only 4 days to do the city itself. A must is the FolksMuseum.

Bergen: loved Bergen but one day would be sufficient unless you were using it as a base.

Flam: just a depot for the ferry arrival and train departure and 4 hours was enough for me.

Thanks so much for your replies

I can sense that 21 days is a very long period for Norway, I've researched many places in the country and some of them are up in the North such as Tromso, do you recommend going there?

We will be traveling by train to the far places and by car to the near places (2-3 hours drive)

Do you recommend me to use Bergen as base and go around?

This year pr next year? There has been a huge increase in tourism to Norway this year, probably due to low oil prices and fall in the value of the kroner. Places like Flåm and Geiranger are probably pretty much booked out this summer, so you need to check accommodation availability first. Cities will probably not be a problem for accommodation in summer

Norway may be viewed also as a safer place than say France or the UK or other countries due to fear of terrorism.

Just saw an interview on TV about someone who was going to Paris but instead is heading to Iceland simply because of terrorism fears.

Of course Norway has had some such problems but most folks probably view it as safe.

Thank you all for your comments, I'm still researching and what I am worried about is the long travel time between cities

As we will be arriving in Oslo I was thinking of renting a car and head to Kristiansand, and then to Bergen where we will fly to Stockholm, but the thing is that the trip from Kristiansand to Bergen (without stopping in Stavanger)is a 6+ hours trip by car, which is tiring for us and especially for our kid, unless we find a place in the middle to entertain our kid and maybe spend a night in, do you have any suggestions please?

My plan B is to head directly from Oslo to Bergen and skip everything else, although Kristiansand and Stavanger looks like nice places.

Thanks

If you have to chose nothing can beat the scenery between Oslo and Bergen if you follow the course as much as possible of the Oslo to Bergen Railway, one of Europe's top scenic rail lines.

There is also a ferry I believe between Bergen and Stavenger - kid may love that.

Hi There,

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this query. Please let me know if i need to create a new thread.

I (31yrs) and my wife (30yrs) , along with my Parents (60yrs) (Total 4 people) are planning to visit norway for our vacation next week.(Starting July 15th 2016)

We all love to travel. We would love to see norway with different means of transport to get around & see...like Air , Road , Ferry & rail. We are not much into hiking & camping but do enjoy places of interest on our way. We are vegetarians and would be preferring to Rent apartments wherever we go, considering there might not be enough options for us eating outside. Also we are comfortable cooking quick meals & pack them for our On the go tours.

After going through few itineraries and Search I have put down the following plan. Would really appreciate if anybody can let ms know if the plan is smooth & workable. Any suggestions are welcome.

15th July : 3: 30 AM : New Delhi to Oslo (12 noon , 15th july) (14hrs including stopover)

overnight stay in oslo.

16th : Oslo to Svolvaer By Air. (we may have to do this via bodo OR oslo to bodo by air & bodo to svolvaer by ferry). Renting a Car in svolvaer . (expensive?) Overnight in Svolvaer or Kabelvag.

17th : Driving on E10 , exploring Lofoten on the way to Reine . Overnight in Reine. (Robuer Stay).

18th : Morning : Moskenes to Bodo Ferry. And then we have to go from BODO to ANDALSNES.

For this which option should we do :

A. Bodo to Andalsnes via Trondheim , Dombas BY RAIL (We may do overnight train to reach next morning) OR

B. Bodo to Trondheim By Air and Trondheim to Andalsnes via Dombas By Rail?

19th : Renting a Car in Andalsnes to reach Geiranger via trollstigen.

19th : We will have Car to drive around . Also we can do Geiranger cruise that day. Overnight stay on Geirangerfjord area. (any recommendations?)

20th : Driving around Geiranger. Stay in Geiranger.

21st : Driving to Alesund & dropping Car.

Alesund to Bergen By Air. Overnight stay in bergen.

22nd : Bergen sighseeing for a day. Overnight stay in bergen.

23rd : Bergen To Flam (Norway in nutshell). Overnight stay in Flam.

24th : Flam to Oslo : overnight in Oslo.

25th : Oslo sightseeing.

26th ; Morning Flight Back to Delhi.

We would welcome any suggestions if we are cramping too much or overstaying any place which can be changed. I know its last minute & we have lot of bookings to do in term of transportation & accommodation.

Thanks

Ashish
