I am looking to compare cost of taking tour to Scandinavian capitals independently, or booking an escorted land package. I have written on this board earlier and received excellent recommendations for travel independently. I am trying to sort out cost as hotels, meals and travel expenses will be high if I do it solo.
I looked at website
theeuroholidays.com
and would like to hear if anyone has experience with this travel group as they are based in US, Canada, UK and Switzerland? They list some excellent 10 day tours also some a bit longer and prices seems a bit cheaper than most other tours, but do not know how much they charge for supplements when traveling solo. I hope to travel to Norway from Ireland and spend up to 2 weeks including a visit to Stockholm.
Thanks in a advance for any help. Kate

I looked at the website you referred to and based on the price quoted (clearly considering a two person deal, since it refers repeatedly to double rooms, etc.) and what is being offered, here are my comments, for what it's worth.
Close to 1,200 euro for 8 nights hotel accommodation, overnight boat trip, and trains, including the Norway in a Nutshell (2nd class Oslo to Myrdal). Everything else, other than breakfast (which are typically provided by Scandinavian hotels -- and they are generally really good!) you pay for, including getting around the cities, entries into museums and sites, etc. And air travel into Stockholm, plus travel costs from Bergen (where you would end) back to where you plan to fly out. So that's about 133 euro/day and more for the single supplement -- so about 150 euro/day, perhaps? There's also no explanation is the tour company includes transit to and from the train stations to the hotels, or if you're on your own for that.
So the question then is, will you be better off if you do it yourself?
I don't doubt you could do the trip for about 100 euro a day, but is the time putting it together worth it?
What they are offering is really just booking travel and accommodations, and everything else is independent, including meals. I'd be looking at the single supplement and the hotels they plan to put you in, and then you'll be able to make a better comparison.
Thanks to Surfergirl. I now feel that I can look at some itineraries from Tour Companies and go independently and the savings might allow me to stretch my trip a bit more to cover more places. I have traveled solo many times in European countries without a problem avoiding the cost of hefty supplements. I might begin in Stockholm and end journey in Norway so I must get busy looking at some of the hotels that the tours use, or those recommended on this board. Your respoonse much appreciated.
Cavangal, I opened the website to see the rates, and they all say "from" - so the price may stay close to advertised, or double when you make reservations.
It seems, they don't request your credit card number right away, why don't you ask them for a quote, and then decide?
If you take a tour, just do Norway with it, and then fly to Stockholm independently. You do not need a tour to see Stockholm.
Hi; Good suggestion from Michael. These two companies are brokers for many of the major tour companies and discount these tours. Richard www.afordabletours.com/ and www.cheapertravel.com/ We are using Pavlus for our Scandinavian tour
I want to thank all who responded.Just received quote from Eurotours, giving total of Euro 3,050, seems very overpriced for land package with accommodations in "comfort" hotels, whatever that means! So I am now convinced I can do it better on my own and select hotels used by other travelers on this board. Should be able to save money to spread out my time to see plenty of lovely areas visiting Norway and Stockholm.
I have airline options so might fly Ryanair one direction (which I have had no problem with once you follow the rules with baggage, etc.) and get SAS nor Norway air back to Shannon. I will report back when I am organized. Your responses were a great help to me. Kate
I just booked a 13 day tour with Cosmos, Denmark, Norway & Sweden - for $1,690.00 US - total. Used miles for plane ticket RT. 50% food included -
WildBird, did you book them through AffordableTours to get 10% discount? I've done so in the past. Even now it's not too late, they can "release" the tour to an agency, dont' remember in how many days since initial reservation.
I did book through Affordable - you can deal with them. It started out over $2,000.00 but with discounts - plus if you have used them before you get another - plus, if you let them know you are also looking at other booking sites - they will discount it further - so, $1,690.00 total for a 13 day tour of Scandinavia - which includes tours and 50% of food - is pretty good.... flights are with Delta and Air France.
Good for you!
