Norway
I am traveling to Norway in August. I plan to begin the Norway in a Nutshell tour from Bergen, but would like to stay 3 nights in Sogndal before continuing the tour from Flam to Oslo. I want to rent a car- but it seems the best option would be to rent in Sogndal. The question is, what is the best way for me to get from Flam to Sogndal, then from Sogndal back to Flam earlier enough on the 4th day to catch the 5pm train from Flam to Myrdal then on to Oslo??
I see one car company in Flam (Vibak Bilutleie)-is it legit and easy to navigate the rental process?
Help!

Autumn, I don't know about cars, but make sure you don't miss the slow ferry that goes from Flam down the Naeroyfjord. That's one of the most scenic parts of the Nutshell. Are you starting the Nutshell with this?

The Nutshell from Bergen-Voss-Gudvangen-Flam, then pick up car-2 nights Sogndal-back to Flam to drop off car and continue the Nutshell to Myrdal and Oslo. The trip starts with 6 day SB Hurtigruten from Kirkenes-Bergen; 2 nights in Bergen, then Nutshell.

I don't know anything about this particular agency, but I have rented cars in Norway and it is about the easiest and most stress-free place to drive of any place I have been in Europe.
Also, the Norwegians are among the most honest and reliable people anywhere, so I wouldn't worry about the company being "legit". I suggest you just call them up (during Norwegian daytime hours) and talk to them about your proposed rental. Most Norwegians speak very good English.

Why not take the bus from Flam to Sogndal. There are four or five departures every day and it only costs NOK 178.00 return.
Here's the timetable http://www.nor-way.no/?lang=en_GB
