Northern Spain for 1 week in Cantabria with a toddler

Hi all,

I will be travelling in June in North Spain with my husband, 20 month old, mum, sister and bil. We were hoping to get a villa to stay in for 1 week from where we could do day trips to explore the area. I was thinking somewhere near Santander maybe so that we could travel to the picos, bilbao, and other places nearby. we will have a car. Does anyone have any recomendation for somewhere suitable to stay, even if it is the town/ village that you think is suitable for day trips but also good for a toddler and near to shops, restaurants and parks?

many thanks in advance

Have you ever been there before? What is your budget?

Only to Barcelona.

Not really sure of Budget at this point, maybe say not too pricey! We are going to be driving from France, hoping to stay in Nth Spain for 1 week then drive down to the south, staying in madrid for a couple of nights to break the journey and then staying in Granada for 3-4 days and then Seville for 4-5 days. Maybe Malaga or somewhere on the coast too So any recomendations there as well would be great! We dont want to move around too much as it is a bit of a hassle with a little boy

If you are driving from France it would make more sense to first stay in Bilbao, then move on.
If your heart is set on Cantabria then here is the website for the region. You can choose something the suits your budget and interests.

It is only in Spanish.
Santander is around 2 to 2.5 hours drive away from The Picos. So that is basically half a day gone when visiting.

I trust your car is big 6 in a car it will need to be. Please do not forget the child seat laws in Europe.

Thanks for your replies.

we are taking 2 cars so that should be ok. I guess i was hoping for a village/ town that is sort of central to everything so that we could do day trips easily. Not sure if there really is, I guess there will need to be a compromise i.e. closer to bilbao or closer to the picos.
