Northern Ireland

Jump to last reply

After the London Paralympics I plan to spend a few days in Northern Ireland. I have not been there before.

Here is my initial thought for an itinerary:
Day 1: Derry
Day 2 - 3: Antrim Coast - Potrush, Giant's Causeway (hiking), Bushmill's Distillery, Rope Bridge, Dunluce Castle, maybe Rathlin Island. Hope to do this in a rental car.
Day 4-5: Belfast

A few questions:

1. Does anyone other than Ryan Air fly to Derry from London? Their flight times are not ideal for me.

2. Trying to find car rental in Portrush but so far the closest I can find is Derry. Due to cost (esp since I can't drive a manual transmission) and left hand drive, want to minimize car rental.

3. Is mid Sept too late to go to Rathlin Island?

4. Is the one year OPW Irish Heritage pass good in Northern Ireland? When I bought it, they gave me a map of sights which included Northern Ireland. At the moment I can't find the map and in looking up the pass online they don't show Northern Ireland.

5. Considering an iLink pass but trying to figure out the zones - the website gives the prices but I can't tell what is included in the zones (which apparently recently changed). Does anyone know in which zone Derry is?

6. Any opinion on the new Visitors Center at the Causeway?

7. Any thoughts on the itinerary?

Posting under UK as well......

Thanks!
