North Cyprus is the Turkish part, some land / property sold used to belong to Greeks who relocated south in 1974. Same in the south, some land used to belong to Turks. Thorough check on title deeds etc is necessary.

There is no prob in attitude towards Brits, cost of living much lower than in the UK although property prices can be very expensive now in the Euro. Resale prices of new build house seems to be poor, there isn't alot of traditional village stone house, either renovated or for renovation. There are no issues with working or buying a car or owning a house outright, in fact mortgages used to be a rarity years ago. The standard of living is quite high, but the island can be boring after a while. Water supply can be an issue, in fact some houses have water supply couple days a week. Security used to be OK, could leave doors open but nowadays with the influx of people from other parts of the world, things have changed dramatically on the island.

There's a big influx of Eastern Europeans into Cyprus, both Turkish and Greek sides and the atmosphere on the island has become less welcoming and more threatening. The property market is in the toilet and N Cyprus property is extremely dangerous to buy due to the potential for legal action from previous owners of land before partition.

It's difficult to find a really independent lawyer that you can rely on, as there are so many inter-relationships between families.

Maybe BVI's not such a bad suggestion.

What sort of reply??? you ask, duh... it is suggesting for ya to look at the British Virgin Islands for relocation...since you are both British citizens ...well...there ya go...immigration simple....wonderful place to retire.

The question would be-in BVI-do you mind humidity & hurricanes|?? If I were a British Citizen& could choose I would go with No Cyprus. Warmer than Briton & cheaper. How about Malta. The world is your oyster.

First of all be very carefull in buying a home in the T.R.N.C. Over a 10.000 British ex-pats are more or less in trouble because of the outcome of the Orams-case. Only a pre-1974 Turkish title deed is hundred percent safe. If you like to mix with your compatriots than choose the coastline west of Girne/Kyrenia.
