Going to Paris in September and would like to do 203 days in Normandy. How long of a drive is it from the Paris Airport? Can you train there from the Paris Airport? Can you recommend a very nice hotel/accomodation there? I like slightly higher end.

I traveled to the Normany area with my 22 year-old daughter. We took a train from Paris to Caan and there we picked up a car. It was mid July and very hot and I was so glad I opted for a/c instead of "charm" for a hotel. We stayed at the Novetel in Bayeau--a short drive from Caan. We took an all day tour with Danielle. The HI LIGHT of the trip. She was wonderful. Her web site is www.normandyours.com. She took us to all the places we wanted and was able to pull right up close. We wanted to do Mont-Saint_Michel on our own, but we lost a day because of my migrane headache. So she incorporated that into our D-Day trip. She picked us up at our hotel and drove our car. The price was only about 50 Euros more that if we had booked a "jeep" tour which would have been routine. A great personality and so knowledgable. Also check out www.normandy-tourism.org. Your can find all sorts of hotels there. The "Hotels & Restaurants 'de Charme' " might be just what you're looking for. If you want any other suggestions, just ask.
We drove from paris to bayeux with little difficulty. It took about 2 hours if I remember correctly. We used Bayeux as our base for 3 nights. Stayed at Lion D'Or which has a great location, off street parking and is very charming. Depending on who you talk to, I believe that either Lion D'Or or the Churchill are considered the top hotels in Bayeux. There are many many things to do in the Bayeux area: cathedral, tapestry, d-day beaches, American, British and German cemeteries, Pointe Du Hoc, Longues Batteries, St Mere Eglise, Peace Museum in Caan, etc etc. Le Rapier as well as the restaurant at Lion D'Or were excellent.
