Normandy to London
Hi all we will be in Normandy in Sept leaving Bayeux on the 12th driving to Lille to take the train to London
Could anyone tell me the station we have to go too.as we will have to drop our rental car off at Eruocar rental.
When is the best time to look for train fares.
Plus once we get into London we are looking for a hotel as central as possible and close to a train station to take us up to the midlands on the 15th staying in London 3nights approx cost $200
A night.

www.eurostar.com for Channel trains - book as early as possible - You want Calais-Frethun train station - just a few trains a day from there however.

Well if you're driving to Lille to drop your car off then you want be at Lille Europe station for trains to London.
At approx £140 for London you might get a Premier Inn

What do you mean, you are driving to Lille to take the Eurostar to London but want to know what train station to go to? You would go to the Lille Europe Eurostar train station. Driving to Calais train station would only make sense if you were not, in fact, driving to Lille.
I don't think there is such a company as Eurocar in France. If you mean Europcar, you would go to the Lille TGV Europe office, not the Lille Flandres office.

From Oustreham near Caen and Bayeux you can take fast boats to Portsmouth, England and from the docks get trains to London - I did this once - there are also night boats - fares can be really cheap by advance booking - save a day of car rental and gas and return car at Oustreham or Caen and take the shuttle bus to the docks.

The Oustreham (Caen) to Portsmouth ferries are modern and give you a different experience of getting to England - like in the old days - only by ship or plane - rather than the underground English Channel Tunnel - you can take the night boat as I did and save on a night in a hotel and it doesn't break the bank to get a nice private berth - could be an adventure - and no need to make the longish drive to Lille - train fare from Portsmouth Harbour to London can be very cheap if you book in advance - www.nationalrail.co.uk for fares and booking. also save a day car rental.

Thanks all

I like your idea.
If we drop the car off in Caen is it far to get to ousterham for the ferry.
There is a ferry at 8:30am getting into Portsmouth 1:15pm
Train 2:15pm.
Is there any more details you could give me please.
Alan.

Hi looking for advice again on my last post we where going to drop the rental cat off at Lille but with some help from the forum we have changed our plans.
We are now going to drop the car off at Calais then take the ferry over to Dover then look to take the train into London.
When is the best time to book the ferry.
And how far is the train station in Dover, if it is far are there taxies right at the ferry to take us to the station.

Do you mean how far in advance? You can book any time - once your dates are firm but there really isn't a big hurry.
You'll have to take a taxi -- it isn't very far but isn't walkable. There is a taxi rank right outside the terminal.

Yes taxis for sure but also regular shuttle buses to Dover Priory Station for trains to London - you may spend more that route than a cheap ticket on the Eurostar and it will also take a lot lot longer.

Though you have changed your plans there are regular shuttle buses between Caen's main train station and the Oustreham docks - about 5 miles or so away. Well I think the Portsmouth route would be the cheapest and quickest way between Caen and London. Again save a day on a car rental.
In the Dover Eastern Docks there may be luggage storage - if so one of England's finest castles is just above the docks. You can also clamber up paths to the tops of the White Cliffs of Dover - Dover has many budget hotels if you want to stay the night.
