Normandy and Mont-Saint-Michel

Jump to last reply

Two empty-nesters will be visiting Normandy, staying 2 nights in Bayeux in mid-July. We know it will be busy but this coincides with other itinerary items. I would like to visit Mont-Saint-Michel and stay near there for the night. Then we are driving to visit friends just north of Bordeaux. I'm looking for suggestions on how to avoid the worst crowds, if that is possible. Leave Bayeux very early, tour the Mont, then drive to a nice town to spend the night? Or, take our time leaving Bayeux, visit the Mont late int he day and stay close to there. This may be the best option because we will only have 1 1/2 days in Normandy and I know we could spend more time.

So I guess I'm looking for schedule suggestions as well as help choosing a town to explore that night. Maybe something a little further west on the coast from Mont-Saint-Michel?

Thanks, Fodorites!
