Nice, France Hotel? Side Trip?
I just started looking for a hotel for 3 nights in June. I am afraid I have waited too long. Help!
Our cruise ends in Nice. Do you all recommend staying in Nice for 3 nights before we fly back to the states or would you recommend another area close by?
Any thoughts on side trips?
Thank you!

Will you have a car??? We always stay in a little city 30 minutes from Nice in Antibes called the Hotel Josse - clean basic rooms, but it's right across from the water, private little beach across the street, every room has it's own little balcony. Bathrooms tiled. About 129 euros a night probably 149 euros high season. Side trips go to Cannes and Juan Les Pins and Monaco. I didn't enjoy Nice as it seemed a bit run down and I enjoy the sea and want to be able to go to little cafes on the water...Good luck and enjoy the weather will be beautiful - also beware of Cannes events like the film and then the advertising festival they have a lot of things that tie up rooms for conferences.

Nice is one of my favorite European cities. It has a lovely seaside promenade that stretches the length of the city, and a vibrant old town centered around Nice's flower market with lots of bistros, shops, and outdoor entertainment.
Also Nice has excellent transportation connections to many of the other cities and towns along the coast, either by train or bus.
You could definitely find plenty to do for 3 days. I would recommend side trips to: St. Paul de Vence, a walled medieval hill town which is about 40 minutes by bus from Nice, and a train trip to Monaco ( about 30 min.) to visit the royal palace and the casinos.
If you post your budget, I'd be happy to recommend some hotels.
Good luck with your plans!

Some hotels that will be within or close to your budget are:
LE MERIDIEN, excellent location (although it's above a McDonalds!) across the street from the beach, only a few minutes walk to Vieux (Old) Nice.
LE GRIMALDI, a few blocks in from the beach, closer to the train, but still walkable to Vieux Nice.
Also, as I remember one of the big hotel chains just opened up a hotel in Nice. I think it was a Sheraton, which is across the street from the beach, probably about a 20 minute walk to Vieux Nice.
Good luck, and have fun!
