From what I've read it seems like this would be a very interesting place to stop on the way up to County Down for some golf.
Friends are hesitant.
Has anyone been that could comment on how to persuade them...?

It is definitely worth seeing. Shame them into it! It was built 5000 years ago by a Neolithic people that understood astrological alignment. This would be like going to Egypt and not seeing the Pyramids, that were built around the same time!
There is a very interesting exhibition building that shows the history of the area. The guided tours are excellent and there is something profoundly moving about entering that chamber.

Newgrange is definitely worth a stop. But be aware that you don't just drive out to the site, and wander in. YOu have to go to the 'cultural center' and sign up for a tour time. Sometimes you can go right away, but sometimes you have a wait, which can be used to look at the interesting museum.

We went and found it fascinating. Just be aware that this is not a great place if you have claustophobia.
They asked our group to mention if anyone had a problem with small places and no one answered. But when we were only partway in one of the tour members decided to freak out - and half the group had to go back out to let her leave.
(I'm sorry if this seems unsympathetic but the guide was very clear about the possible discomfort. And the feakee admitted later that she can't stand closed spaces - but thought Newgrange would have to be much bigger inside - or no one would go in. It turns out she didn't want to stay alone outside either.)

OK...we are going to do it for sure. They read your replies and you've convinced them. Thanks so much!
Now, I hope we are able to get in to see it. Our plane arrives at 11:00 a.m. and by the time we get our car and drive there I have a feeling it may be pretty crowded. We leave on June 27th...arrive at 11:00 a.m. the 28th.

See if you can book in advance I went once only to be turned away because they were booked out and we arrived too late (WE drove all over the bloody place not realising Bru Na Boine-Battle of the Boyne was the place with Newgrange). The 2nd time I made it in and it was really facinating. It looks just like a mound/hill from the side but what is inside is amazing. They showed the sun coming in on the winter solstace a few years ago and it was unbelievable how the chamber lit up.
