Newbie: silly logisitical questions re storing luggage at train etc (Italy)
This is not our first trip to Europe but will be our first time storing luggage anywhere other than our hotel/B&B. We plan to make a stop at Pompeii on our way between Naples and Sorrento and leave luggage at Pompeii. We also plan to make a stop at Naples on our way between Amalfi and Rome and leave luggage at the train there.
Based on replies to an earlier post, I believe there is luggage storage at Pompeii by the ticket counter but not at the train, but that there is luggage storage at the Naples station?
How does this work? Are there lockers that you pay for a set amount of time, lock up your luggage and get a key? Is it more like a coat-check where you leave your bags with a person who puts them in a locked room? I'm assuming many people do this every day and it is safe and secure? Do we have to worry about how much luggage we have with us? How much does it cost?
We will likely be travelling with one large rollerboard suitcase, one carryon size rollerboard suitcase, one duffle, and likely a carryon tote.
Thank you so much.

Italian stations have manual left luggage offices, not lockers, signposted as "deposito bagagli". Details of the service at Napoli Centrale are on www.grandistazioni.it. The office is open from 0700 to 2300. The cost is €4 per item for the first five hours, then 60c per hour for the next seven hours and 20c an hour after 12 hours.

The storage at the Pompeii entrance (ruins, not train station) is free. The entrance is across the street from the Pompeii Scavi train station.
>>>CLOAK ROOM
Porta Marina Piazza Anfiteatro
Opening Times:
November - March, daily from 8.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.
April - October, daily 8.30 p.m. to 6.00 p.m
Bags, rucksacks, umbrellas and other bulky objects can be left in the cloakroom at the Porta Marina and Piazza Anfiteatro entrances. This service is free of charge.<<<
If you use a luggage room at a train station, sometimes there can be lines to retrieve your luggage so allow enough time.
