My husband & I are lucky enough to be spending New Year's Eve in Paris this year - excited isn't the word, we cann't wait!! It will be our first time in this city, so we haven't got a clue how best to spend this 'night of all nights'. Does anyone know of any special events that are taking place, or have any suggestions on where we could go? Thanks in advance! Helen.

We were in Paris New Year's eve last year. Whatever you do, you are going to have a great unforgettable experience! (My wife says no one celebrates New Year's like the Parisians; it's France's favorite holiday).
At midnight we were at the Eiffel tower (actually on Pont Alma). I believe the tower still has the special millenium lights, so you might want to be there. Carry champagne with you, everybody was drinking from the bottle & kissing... it reminded me of photo's of Paris liberation in WII. After midnight, we walked to the Champs-Elysees which was bursting with energy into the wee hours. (we didn't return to our hotel until almost 5 am & we're old, creaky retired people). Last year, the metro & busses ran till dawn & were FREE.
If you prefer to celebrate in a restaurant or club, just ask at you hotel. Last year, many places were taking last minute reservations. (Dinner cruises on the Seine are very popular and should be booked months in advance.)
Not to be missed are the spectacular Christmas windows on the main shopping streets. I've never seen anything like them (Macy's windows in New York don't even come close.)
Also a lot of fun is the wonderful skating rink at Hotel de Ville (City Hall).
If the giant ferris wheel is still operating at Place de la Concorde, it's worth the wait in line to see the truly spectacular views of Paris at night (be sure to bring your camera.)
Boy, I wash I was going .....
I, too, will be in Paris for the New Year's with a tour group. Unfortunately, I will not be with anyone I know. Maybe I will find a cute Parisian boy
I cannot wait to see this once-in-a-lifetime event!! Woo Hoo!
