New Orient Hotel in Paris

Has anyone stayed at the New Orient Hotel in Paris? It looks quite nice in their website and price is reasonable. We are staying just one night and wanted to be close to San Lazare train station as we are heading to Bayeux the next morning. Anyone familiar with this hotel and/or the area around. Not planning any sight-seeing but would like a decent neighborhood with some good bars/restaurants.

Do you mean St Lazare? I've stayed near there but in the 9th, it's a decent neighborhood, of course. But the New Orient is the other side of the gare in the 8th between Villiers and Europe metro stops. I've been over in that area a bit as it has a lot of music shops over there, on rue de Rome and environs. It's good for sheet music. Sure, it's fine, don't worry about the neighborhood. I actually think there used to be hookers over in that area a bit, I forget exactly where (and I don't mean in MOnet's time).

I don't know anything about the hotel but I remember reading a good review of it in some magazine once, I think it was a French magazine about good new budget hotels in Paris.

I stayed at the Hotel Langlois which is several blocks the other direction near Trinite metro stop. That's a good area and I know I can recommend that, and since if anything it is a little closer, give that a look. http://www.hotel-langlois.com/

If you really want to be real close to St Lazare, I don't think the New Orient is exactly where I'd stay.

Yes, it is Gare Saint-Lazare that we are trying to stay near. I will check out the Langlois. Thanks.

Did you end up staying at the New Orient? I am planning on staying there after coming in from Bayeux. If so, how did you like it and how was getting to Bayeux from that part of Paros?

We stayed there in March and it was great! Its a bit off the tourist track, but our rooms had just been renovated and there were lots of shops, bakeries, bars, restaurants nearby to keep us entertained. The common areas were being renovated and were under construction but that didnt bother us. It was like staying in a real neighbourhood. The only thing is that most touristy things were a metro ride away, rather than a walk but I would definitely stay there again.
