New hotel in Athens. Thoughts?
I heard of a new hotel in Athens opening late this summer. It is called the Acropolis Museum Hotel. It is located at 48 L.Syngrou street, Athens - Greece. (Is this hotel adjacent to the new acropolis museum at the base of the acropolis? That is how it is advertised) Wikipedia says this museum is scheduled to open in the start of 2008. Is that true? If so, does it mean that there will be a lot of construction noise during the Fall of 2007. We're planning a trip for early October. So, I am hoping to get some feedback on whether this hotel is in a good location. Of course, being near the Acropolis seems convenient. Is it a far walk to "the Plaka?" Is it better to stay at a hotel in "the Plaka?" The other hotel we are considering is Hotel Eridanus. Thanks for your help!

Yes it's in a good location... I saw it in the construction process when I was in Athens first of June. But folks, we're talking GREECE here. I would be very surprised if it was ready before Autumn.
And anyway, I'd want to give a new hotel "shake-out time" to get the kinks ironed out before paying the undoubtedly pricey room rates.

Hi - well, we seem to be getting quite a deal - 98Euro's a night. This hotel is the sister hotel of Magna Grecia hotel, which has good reviews on tripadvisor, so, I am hopeful that this hotel will be nice, as well. But, of course there are no reviews yet. We hear the hotel will be open late August. Our friends are staying in September. We are staying in October. (So, hopefully they open in time and there are no delays; but, perhaps we should have a back up plan, just in case). Thanks for the info on the location - that's good news!

Here's the hotel's webpage with map:
http://www.acropolismuseumhotel.com/...museummap.html
They have taken some liberties with the naming, as it's not especially near the museum ... appears about a 15 minute walk to the Acropolis entrance and to the Plaka.
It's on busy, noisy Syngrou street, so let's hope the sound-proofing is of good quality.
My personal preference is to stay inside, or closer, to Plaka ... but such hotels tend to be more costly.
