Neufchâtel, Murten, or Thun

We will be in Bern this Sunday and Monday. One day we plan to explore the city with possibly the walking tour or a museum. The other day we would like to explore another town. Neufchâtel and Murten look they could possibly be done together. Thunder looks like another nice option. What are your thoughts. Depending on the weather we would possibly just browse the town or possibly a bike ride or hike. I never love Sunday's and Monday's because museums are closed on Mondays and towns are often quiet.

Thun is a nice old town with a river rusing thru it - how about a boat cruise on Lake Thun - say to Spiez - has the castle of your dreams looming high above the harbor (also a few minutes by train from Thun or there is a lovely sweet fairly flat ridge walk you can take the relatively short distance between the two.

Or take the boat or trolley bus from Thun to Oberhofen and its great castle:

I don't think there is that much to do in Thun except see the lovely town and castle (not as nice IME as the others) so twin it with Spiez - a tiny town and old Oberhofen for a brilliant day on the lake.

I also walked from Oberhofen to Thun along the lake - several kms.

In Bern you can also take kayaks down the rushing river.

Sunday only:
Take any train to Murten, visit the town and continue by boat to Neuchatel.
Or do it in the other direction if you want to visit one of the museums of Neuchatel. Some Murten or Biel/Bienne bound boats stop at the Latenium museum pier.

Monday may be rainy.
If you like caves: the Beatus Caves (Lake Thun) will be open on Mondays too.
The Einstein House at Berne is open on Mondays
The Natural History Museum of Berne is open Monday afternoon
The Abegg Foundation at Riggisberg is open Monday afternoon

Bern's most famous new museum is the Paul Klee museum, right - both for its contents and unique appearance:

If you have a Swiss Pass it is valid at hundreds of Swiss museums for free entry.
