Hi All! I'll be roaming around Andalucia for a few weeks this July and I have four days to split up between Nerja and Granada. Should I spend two days in each or can I spend the whole time in Nerja (I love the beach!) and take a day trip to Granada? I'd love to just decide when I get there, but I'd like to reserve in advance.
Thanks for your advice!!!
Melissa
PS: I also welcome any accomodation recommendations in Nerja. Strong on atmosphere and low on cost!
nerja or granada?

I spent 10 days in Nerja last October and am going back for two more weeks this coming September. That's how much I like the area. I intend to take day trips to Granada to visit the Alhambra, etc. If I were you, I'd spend three days in and around Nerja with a day trip to Granada. -- Enjoy!
We loved Nerja and wished we had had more time there. We stayed at the Balcon de Europa - right on the beach - we thought it was reasonable - we had a junior suite overlooking the sea for about $100 a night. We emailed them directly to make arrangements.
We did spend one night in Granada but you could definitely do a day trip and see everything. The Alhambra is fantastic - but the rest of Granada we found to be lacking and generally uninteresting (and dirty and a bit unsafe...) That was just our opinion though - others will tell you it was their favorite - that is the great thing about Andalucia - seems to be something for everyone to like!
I definitely agree with marylewis. We spent two nights in Granada and feel we should have made it a day trip. I loved Nerja. If you love the beach, Nerja is beautiful. The caves in Nerja were fabulous. I never thought I would enjoy seeing caves so much!!!!!!!
I agree with the above responses. Seems like your dilemma is resolved.
Not to be contrary, but I would definitely spend the night in Granada. One of the things we like most about Granada was its "city energy." We had some great meals there and LOVED the tapas bars at night. The Alhambra at night (all lit up from the Albacin side) is really something to behold. If you enjoy seeing part of the nightlife of a city (we do -- we think that's part of seeing the "real" parts of a place), then definitely plan to stay at least a night and be sure to wander around the tapas bars behind Plaza Nuevo.
