We will be in Paris in April and looking over our itinerery my husband mentioned he wanted to go back to the bar he had once visited in the Montmatre/Sacre Couer area. The only thing he remembers is that the walls were covered with money. Apparently a first time visitor tacked a bill of his home country's currency on the wall. He never asks for much, so does this sound familiar to anyone so he can go back and relive the good ol'days. Thanks.

45 years is a long time. A lot has changed since the late 60s, and sticking money on the wall was common in some circles. Harry's New York Bar celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, but it's in the 2nd, while Montmartre is the 18th, where you'll find the Moulin Rouge. As already noted, it's a good excuse to explore Montmartre, following in the footsteps of Amélie.

I hope you find your bar, even if the decor has changed. Hopefully someone will know about this place. I tried to google it but only came up with one reference to money on the wall of a Montmartre bar and no one else on the thread commented about the decor so I don't think it was the place.
Hopefully kerouac will see this an perhaps know the place.
when we went to Paris a couple of years ago, DH wanted to go back to Montmartre which he had visited as a school boy about 45 years before.
as he was only 15 years old at the time, he didn't see the inside of many bars, so I'm not able to help with finding yours. I don't think that Sacre Coeur had changed much though.

If you prefer an escorted tour of Montmartre I can recommend Paris Walks. I've taken about a dozen of their walks and have enjoyed them all. At E12 per person it's a reasonable and informative way to spend a couple of hours.

I seriously doubt many bars from 45 years ago remain, and if they do, they probably have certainly changed owners and the decor.
I think the best thing is to go up there and look around, maybe something will ring a bell.
This is unlikely, but I do know a small piano bar up there to the west of place du Tertre where visitors pin all kinds of things to the wall, it's known for that. Occasionally money, but not usually, just various cards, notes, etc., small souvenir type things. Have no idea how long it's been there, it's just a small hole in the wall (Le Tire Bouchon).
