Need suggestions on where to stay in Porto?

My DH & I are planning a trip to Portugal in October. We will fly into Porto & stay 2 or 3 nights before going on to Lisbon. I am unsure what area to say in. We like to be in an area that we can walk to restaurants, some sites, and close to public transportation. We prefer not to stay in large chain hotels or 5* hotels Any suggestions will be appreciated.

use booking.com reviews, facilities of hotel, map for location and quick online reservation. What more do you want?

I used both Booking.com & Trip Advisor reading reviews & referring to the maps until I found one that fit my criteria. I'm sure it will work out fine. Both sites such are very useful. However I like getting feedback directly from other travelers on Fedora which is so helpful.

We enjoyed Hotel Infante de Sagres, excellent service, nice room.
There is now a pousada in Porto which should be excellent too.

We also stayed at the Hotel Infante de Sagres and agree it was excellent. Portugal has so many Posada's which are in excellent locations with top food and service.

If you want really small, we enjoyed our stay at "Enjoy Porto Guest House" run by a lovely couple. It is a B&B

I just reread my previous post where I said I like getting feedback from "Fedora". Guess I should have proofread before submitting. It should have read "Fodors".Oops.

What is a"Pousada"?

I tried to get into the Port Guest House, but it is booked for the dates I needed. Will check out Hotel Infante de Sagres.
Thanks for the recommendation.
