need information on Innsbruck, Austria

Hello, I am a high school student in Spokane, Washington and I am composing a report on Innsbruck. I also hve the oppertunity to spend some time there next summer, so let me know your immpressions of the city if you have there. So if you have ANY information about Innsbruck, it would be greatly appreciated if you could e-mail it to me.
Thank You!

I was in Innsbruck about 3 years ago and was struck by the beauty of this small city. Small, regal in appearance and a view of the Alps from the quaint city center that is not to be beat. Lots of "nooks and crannies" to investigate. Can see most by foot and that includes hiking to a small mountain where you can take a cable car up to the top and sit for a while, admiring the pastures, and the "city" far in the distance. Innsbruck remains one of my favorite European cities. Go if you can!

In Oct, I am passing through Innsbruck on my way to Salzburg (first time). I will have about 4 hours to mill about. Any suggestions on a good spot for lunch and a few choice streets to explore?

Go to the Old Town part of Innsbruck for a short visit. Nice restaurants along that street. Some with outdoor dining. For the question on staying in Innsbruck: if u have a car, stay in Garmisch, Germany and drive to Innsbruck for the visit. Garmisch more fun, prettier and not too far away for an easy drive. Hotel Hilleprandt is nice in Garmisch. Innsbruck too much of a larger town with the resultant traffic.

I agree with Bob. I spent a night in Innsbruck last summer. I wish I had spent another night in Garmish( Sonneblisch Hotel) instead. Innsbruck (old town) is nice to visit and dine, but there are more things to do & see in other Austrian cities. You can wrap up Innsbruck in a few hours. Hotels seem overpriced for what you get as compared to other cities.

We were just in Innsbruck twice this month. Be aware that the famous Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) is being renovated and is totally hidden under scaffolding and will be for quite a long time now (they have a big photograph hung on a canvas in front of the scaffolding.......and tourists were actually taking pictures of this picture!). The Schloss Ambras is well worth seeing. Be aware if you walk up to it from below the path goes right through a cemetery for men killed in W.W.I and W.W.II complete with photos of the men in their Nazi uniforms on the graves. That upset my husband a lot to see.

The best thing to do in Innsbruck (weather permitting) is to take one of the free guided hikes offered by the City. They leave every morning from the City Hall and change routes every day. They take you on a bus to the bottom of a mountain and then you basically hike up, have lunch at one of the guesthouses located on top of the mountains and then hike back down. The scenery is amazing--Alpine meadows, wildflowers, snowcapped mountains, valleys with traditional church spires, etc. <BR>
