Need Hotel in Athens in/near Plaka nice, clean, safe
We will be staying in Athens in Sept 2011 after visiting the islands. We are only staying for a 3 nights. (wish we had more time) We are looking for a clean, safe, and 'nice' hotel in or near the Plaka. I have read so many reviews I am now confused! Our budget would be around $200 per night, and would prefer to pay less. Thanks!

You could start on this site. booking.com/athens Once you put in your dates, you will also be able to check how many euros and the location, Plaka. Then see what happens. Reviews are included, but you could also check reviews on tripadvisor.com/athens

I stayed at the Athens Gate two years ago, and it has all the qualities you asked for. Our room looked out on the Temple of Zeus. The upper floor restaurant is good and looks out to the Parthenon. A hop-on, hop-off bus stops just across the street. Very kind and friendly staff.

I was looking at the Electra Palace, but I think it is over our budget. The Airotel Parthenon but I thought we might do better location wise. I do think the Athens Gate is what we are looking for in price and location. thanks.

The Airotel Parthenon is in a perfect location, a 2 minute walk & you are in Plaka, 4-5 minutes from the New Acropolis museum, also only a couple of minutes from the Acropoli metro station! Great breakfast compared to others in that price range too, as well as comfortable beds! I have stayed there 5 times, as well as in 8 other hotels, will be staying in yet another one next week (I go to Athens every few months).
You have a wide choice with that budget & if you do decide on the Airotel Parthenon then I suggest checking their own site first,
http://www.airotel.gr/index.asp?a_id=177
They have special rates, often around €89 for a double, the cheapest I have got off season is €69. It does mean you have to pay up front & there is a no cancellation clause, but well worth it if you are sure of your dates. A big saving.
