We will be arriving from Sorrento by the Curreri bus (10 am, not sure where) and staying in Rome for 3 days from July 29 (Thursday, Friday, Saturday) in an apartment off Piazza Della Cancelleria .
I need help figuring out how to get to our apartment from where the bus drops us off and I could also use some help planning what to do when to make the most of our stay there.

I would also appreciate any suggestions for good affordable places to eat and would like to know what you ordered there. My family (husband, son and I) love seafood.

Please feel free to tell me all the things you really enjoyed doing when in Rome.

We ate at Cul de Sac in march after reading about it in your report. The food was good, but our true discovery (thanks to you) was Prosecco. The bottle we had got us from Cul de Sac to our hotel across from the Vatican Museum very happily. Quite a walk but it was very pleasant!

Your bus will arrive at Tiburtina station. For your apartment location (and since you will have luggage), I would suggest you take a taxi.

FYI, by public transport, it would take 2 buses, which I think is too much trouble.
From Rome's ATAC site:
- Departure from roma stazione tiburtina
- walk 50 meters
- go to stop STAZ.NE TIBURTINA (MB)
- take Line No n2 (LAURENTINA (MB)) to 14 stops n2 ogni 12 min.
- get off at stop DE NICOLA/TERMINI
- walk 250 meters
- go to stop REPUBBLICA (MA)
- take Line No n15 (MAZZACURATI) to 8 stops n15 ogni 30 min.
- get off at stop C.SO VITTORIO EMANUELE/NAVONA
- walk 100 meters
- to roma piazza della cancelleria
- distance covered (metres) 6800 meters

I am getting a bit panicky now though since I am not done planning all the details of my trip. I would appreciate any feedback on this page. I also get totally enthralled with what is written in the trip report and forget to jot down what I need.

Is Prosecco a sweet wine? We like the sweeter wines...Reisling, Moscato, Lambrusco. Any suggestions?

Three days is really not much time in Rome, so you will have to choose the sights that are most important to you.

I would suggest most of one day at the Vatican and most of another at the Forum/Colosseum/Palatine.

Since you are staying in the historic city center and will arrive before noon without jet lag issues, I would start out on the first day with a lot of walking from the apartment. You can start with the Pantheon (Piazza della Rotunda) and the Piazza Navona area. (your apartment is right off the Campo de' Fiori which you would want to explore one morning when the market is set up)

There are some beautiful churches with amazing art work very close to the Piazza Navona and Piazza della Rotunda--San Luigi dei Francesci with 3 Caravaggios and gothic Santa Maria sopra Minerva with Michelangelo's the Risen Christ and Bernini's elephant sculpture supporting and obelisk outside.

You can easily walk on to the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish steps, Piazza del Popolo. If you climb the steps from the Piazza to the Pincio gardens you will get a spectacular view of Rome

It sounds as though you will have at least three evenings in addition to two full days, and evenings are a good time to wander.
If you get some guidebooks with good walking tours out of the library, that can help to plot your routes efficiently.

You could have dinner one night in Trastevere to get a little taste of that neighborhood. The walk back across the Tiber over the pedestrian Isola Tiberina and through the Jewish ghetto is magical.

Just be really careful with the temperatures. I was in rome last year during the same dates and boy, it was hot (and I'm Brazilian). Try to do outdoor stuff during either the morning hours or late in the afternoon and keep museums and churches for mid-day. One thing only: the Musei Capitolini only have air conditioning in one room -where they keep Michelangelo's Marcus Aurelius statue).
One restaurant the I recommend is Otello alla Concodia (http://www.otelloallaconcordia.it/menu.html) near the spanish steps. Try the "caccio e peppe" spaghetti/fetuccine and your take on creamy white sauce will change forever.

Vttraveler, thanks for all the info. The walk back across the Tiber sounds lovely, is it safe though to be wandering around at night in that area?

The walk through Trastevere, the Isola Tiberina and the Ghetto neighborhood is safe at night. I think the island is actually likely to be fairly lively in the summer (we were there in late Feb/March when it was quieter)

I found it a nice way to start off my day! LOL! My hotels always had it on the buffet at breakfast!!! ;-)
