Need help with Italy Itinerary (2nd time back)

Jump to last reply

Hello! I'm new to this forum and need help with planning our next trip to Italy.

We've been to Venice, Florence, Rome, Amalfi Coast and Positano before and want to go back and see some other different cities and sites. We prefer to avoid the crowds/touristy areas.

We are thinking of hitting the following for 2 weeks in Early October:

Lake Como - 3 days
Cinque De Terre - 2 days
Capri - 3 days
Praiano (open to other cities)
Salerno (open to other cities)

We really were hoping to fly direct from Los Angeles to Rome and then take it from there. I'm just having trouble figuring out how to plan everything. We are flexible on everything.

Please help!

Since you have been to Positano before, I would choose a town other than Praiano - something further south. I would suggest Amalfi or even Vietri or Cetara. Since the Amalfi Coast isn't that long, I don't see the need to split your time between Salerno and another town. I would get an apartment in one town for the entire time you want to be in the area and visit the other towns on day trips. I would love (and hope) to rent an apartment in either Vietri or Cetara, partially because one of my favorite restaurants on the AC is in Cetara and I love the feel of Vietri with all the ceramics around town. We stayed at Hotel Raito near Vietri in early October last year and the weather was lovely!

With so much time spent on Capri and the AC, I would choose some place other than Cinque Terre, unless you REALLY love the sea. A couple of days in Torino could be interesting - I really enjoyed the day we spent there.

If you are starting at Lake Como and ending on the AC, I would look into flying into Milan and out of Naples - eliminates backtracking.
