Need help with 2 week trip to Italy
I am in planning stages for trip to Italy on either of these dates
Sept 22 - Oct 3
or
Sept 29 - Oct 12
I will be using FF miles and the above dates do not include travel days.
Sept. 22. Arrive Pisa 3pm. Pick up rental car and drive 30 minutes to Viareggio
Sept. 23 - drive to Santa Marguerite Liguria. Stay 3 nights
Sept. 26. Drive to Bellagio. Stay 2 nights
Sept 28. Drive to Verona. Stay 2 nights. Return car
Sept 30. Train to Bologna. Stay 4 nights
We have been to SML and Bellagio a few times but never to Verona or Bologna.
My questions are:
Would either dates be better as far as weather? We like cooler weather.
Should we just base ourselves in Bologna for 6 nights rather than 4 in Bologna and 2 in Verona?
We plan on taking train trips to Parma, Ravenna and other cities while based in Bologna.
Or do you think it is good to spend 2 nights in Verona for a change of pace?
Thank you for any suggestions.

Your plan looks fine to me. Verona for two nights gives you one full day plus whatever else, depending if you travel late in the day to avoid wasting daytime sightseeing.
But what makes me wonder - you fly into Pisa and you don't go to the Cathedral grounds with the beautiful cathedral (duomo), the equally if not more beautiful baptistry, and - of course - the leaning tower?

September/October weather is very unpredictable in this area. It may be dry ad sunny or it may rain during days. If the latter happens, neither Stanta Maria Ligure nor Bellagio might be the optimal places to stay.
