I am not much in hiking but wants to see Interlaken , mountains and all abundant scenery and Lake towns, Interlaken region with GE etc. How do the mountains look like between these 2 different travel dates

I have to finalize my travel dates our vacation ( Ah... time to take off from work). Plz help in deciding. Ideally I would like to travel from 1- 14 Oct as it gives me some time to relax and making suit case preparations after my project deadline in Mid sept. But I can manage to go bit early with more hard work.

or 1st - 14 Oct??


Which one would you suggest. Thank you for all help. Watch for my report once I come back from my trip.

Those dates are too late to hike in the BO in my opinion.

I always stay at the same hotel in Wengen and they close up the 3rd week of September and don't reopen until the start of the ski season.

Interlaken won't be as deserted as Wengen, however.

I most often travel to Switzerland over the last week in September and first week of October. The only limitation of a later date appears that an occasional gondola or other mountain conveyance may be closed for in- between- season maintenance. But, a quick glance at the mountain trains in the Berner Oberland finds that all the major ones close only after the third wk of October. I have never encountered troubles hiking due to weather up to mid October. I believe either date would be fine. Of course, snowfall on the peaks is more likely the later it gets, but IMO, that would enhance your experience. ��

Earlier the better always in this case. Once in mid-September I had icy sidewalks in Murren during the day - not common but possible - OP does not care to hike much so the weather should not affect public transit like mokka4 says.

And normally hiking even would be perhaps a little cool but fine - but weather can be funky any time of summer too - long periods of rain can and do set in and to me that is worse than being a bit chilly - Interlaken itself is at low elevation so much warmer.

As an avid hiker who always visits Switzerland in the off season, I think both options are fine. But then again, I hike in the rain and snow too.

The bigger question is what will be operating and what accommodation and restaurants in your chosen alpine areas will be open?

I suggest you check the operating schedules for all that you plan to do and make your decision based upon that.

and how about lush green landscapes during 1st- 14Oct. Will I be able to see fall colors and snow mountains both at this time?

Yup - there is ice and snow on teh Jungfraujoch all year too.
