Need advise for renting a car + route

I don't know is it a crazy idea to rent a car in Prague and go to Vienna, Budapest and through the Lake Balaton (Hungary) back to Prague? Please advise with a good tips if somebody made a similar trip. Where to rent a car, what to visit by the way etc...
Thanks

It's a crazy idea if you have absolutely no interests (scenery, art, history, etc).
It's not crazy if you do, for there's plenty of interesting places to visit.
Could you expand?

I hate to be a wet blanket, but I visited Lake Balaton nearly 5 years ago and recall being rather under-whelmed. The water itself didn't look much clean, and the place seemed to cater to german tourists on the lookout for cheap beer.
I recall drive between Balaton and Budapest was about 2-3hrs. Signs were clear, but the traffic got quite heavy toward Budapest.

all depands on what you want to see between all those cities if anything ... considering parking where in all 3 will not be easy and costly and how much of this rental you be using ... vs really good public transportation, good train connection between all 3 - I would rent on my last day in budapest to go to Lake Balaton and then maybe to drive back to Prague to return it (although cost of returning in another country may not be worth driving to Prague)... so maybe just renting in Hungry and use it in hungry and returnig rental back at pickup location ...

We are back now. We rented a car in Prague (Budget) and visited Vienna for 2 days. From Vienna we had 4-5 hours ride to Pecs. Also visited Villany and Siklos wine regions (very nice countryside, great experience!). From Pecs we directly went to Budapest. Originally we planned visit the Lake Balaton for 1-2 nights, but my family wanted to spend more time in Budapest. We really felt in love with this beautiful city and definitely will come back!

We are thinking about renting a car in Prague and going until Innsbruck, where we will be returning th car.

Libanio I was born in Belo Horizonte but live in New Jersey. Since you are a travel consultant could you please help me with my trip to Italy? Cheap but good hotels, rent a car or travel by train between cities (Florence, Piza, Venice, etc.). My email is [email protected] and I will be glad to receive info from you! Thanks a lot.
