Need advice: Paris large hotel vs. boutique hotel?

Jump to last reply

Trying to decide on hotel for long weekend in paris during October. Debating between large, grand hotel or unique boutique hotel.

some details:

Price range ~$600
4 nights
neighborhood (pretty broad): arrondissements 1-7
I will be 6 months pregnant
Since this is second baby moon we also just want to enjoy strolling through city, eating, cafés, etc.
Husband has never been to France / Paris and wants to see some of the standard sights but we are pretty quick museum goers

Given that I will be pregnant, jet lagged and expecting to walk a lot, thinking that maybe a larger hotel with all amenities and spacious rooms would be more appealing. I also am just appealed to the grandeur / history of the large hotel for this trip just like the Plaza or Waldorf in New York or fairmont in San Fran. Are they really too grand for attentive service or too many rooms missing little details? We don't want to lose the allure of the trip by being in some stale chain hotel or too busy for good service hotel either.

On the other hand, my husband and I travel a lot and aren't afraid to try some more local places with character. However, we don't want a small cramped boutique hotel with communal breakfast - this is also to be a little pampering trip without the kids. We have done that in the past but just not for this trip.

Given that we have been debating between these hotels which are all over the spectrum:
- intercontinental le grand or westin vendome
- grand hotel du palace royal
- la maison favart

Thoughts or recommendations? Do note this might not make complete sense because of my baby brain, so your patience with me is appreciated. :)
