Need Advice for Trip to France

Hello-

My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon in Paris and plan to spend 4 days in Paris and then would like to see the South of France. We have 2 days left after Paris to travel so we would like to go somewhere that doesn't require too much travel time so we have more time to enjoy it. Any recommendations? I'd love to get down to the coast but I think that's going to be too far. Could really use some advice.

Thanks,
Dani

So you only have 6 days on the ground in France total? Day 1 will likely be a jet-lagged blur, leaving you three days for Paris, which isn't much.

Yes, you can get "down to the coast," if you mean the Côte d'Azur, relatively quickly on the TGV - maybe 5 hours - but again, then you have no time to enjoy it. Even if you bought open-jaw tickets and flew home out of Nice, for example, you'd hardly be oriented before it would be time to leave.

Stay in Paris and maybe take a daytrip to one of the dozens of wonderful places outside the city, would be my advice.

I agree. You do not have the time to have an enjoyable trip to the south of France.

Another vote for just staying THERE. You will not regret it a minute. Going to "the south of France" is a haul--not too much, but you will be in total love with Paris. Take a day trip to Giverney. RELAX. LOVE!!!

Another vote for just staying there, in Paris. Relax. It's your honeymoon and your first day or two are lost to jet lag anyway. There's more than enough to do in 6 days in Paris. If you're looking for something to do outside of Paris, take a day trip... there are dozens of recommendations here on Fodors. Versailles. Giverny. Chartres. I think even Belgium can be reached more quickly than a trip "down the coast." Congratulations on your coming wedding. When will you be on your honeymoon? There's LOTS of information about Paris here at Fodors so you've come to a good place.

You don't say what time of year, which could make a difference. but I wold agree for a honeymoon, when you want to be relaxed, sit in a cafe and watch the very interesting world go by - stay in Paris and do one or two day trips if you want.

Wow- thank you for all the helpful tips. We are getting married in July but our honeymoon is Oct 27- Nov 4. So we have 2 travel days to/from the states to Paris and 7 days total to relax and play. My fiance suggested maybe we spend a night or 2 in London at the end of the trip instead of traveling to the south. What do you think about that? Too much?

I think you need to look at the data. Look at travel times at www.bahn.com.

Paris-London 2:20 plus Eurostar check in requirement
Paris-Nice 5:40

So, yes Côte d'Azur is about 3 hours more than to London from Paris, but I don't think it is that much of a difference as a part of a 7 day trip. At that time of the year, going south has its attractions. Different people have different views on what value they get out of staying in one place vs multiple places. Only you can decide the mix that makes sense to you provided you have computed in relevant overhead in moving from one place to another.

if you can fly out of london back home then this would be a good idea. although not a long time in London if you have never been then it is worth a look.

I totally suggest you fly into Paris, and out of London , price out Multi Destination flights not two one ways.
Going south at that time of the year is not really ideal, it won't be beach weather so unless you specially just want to go south for other reasons don't bother.

You can enjoy 5 days in Paris and 2 in London ( or divide how you like I suppose but of course I favor Paris, lol )

Eurostar city center to city center is only 2.5 hours. Buy ticket well in advance and it can cheap too.
