Need Advice for Stuttgart/Munich Area

Jump to last reply

DH & I are arriving in Stuttgart at noon on a Tuesday in October, and have to be in Venice approx by noon the following Saturday. We have 4 days in total to go - anywhere. We can exercise the option of eliminating the last leg of our flight into Stuttgart and begin our few days from Munich.

I have spent hours looking at a route that takes us to Tubingen for our first night; renting a car and visiting castles: Lichtenstein, Hohenzollern on Wednesday and then making our way to Fussen. There we would see Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein, before jumping on a train on Friday over the border(s) to Bolzano for Friday night and on to Venice Saturday morning.

Total driving time is just over 4 hours, but with stops along the way and driving in/along the mtns, is that even too far? And are we going to be castled-out in those couple of days? Or is the drive just worth it for the scenery?
Should we get out in Munich and head south to Fussen and the lake area?

Any insight would be most helpful.
