Need $750 at the ATM

I need to withdraw $750 using my ATM in a couple of European countries. Since that is the daily limit for my bank, how do I know I've withdrawn that amount of money in euros at the ATM? I've never been, so can I enter in that I want $750 and the ATM will automatically calculate that in euros or do I need to mentally convert the dollars to euros and then enter in the amount to be withdrawn in euros at the machine? The only reason I need a large amount of euros is that a houseboat I've rented in Amsterdam requires cash in euros and won't let me prepay so...Thanks

In a foreign, country you enter the value in local currency, not your currency.

So you will need to roughly know the exchange rate. At around 1.5, you would get 500 euro per withdrawal.

Your other potential option is a bank draft made out in euros. You'd buy this at home and hand over at arrival.

I've often paid european purchase susing this option. No cost to receiver. I'd of course confirm that they would accept this.

Yes, you only enter the number of euros into the machine, so you must know the current value of the dollar to the euro and convert yourself. I'm a little confused since you say you must pay cash in euros -- how many? I'm not sure how you already converted the number of euros into the $750 dollars, but you just need to reverse it back again. Currently it would be about 480 euros to equal your $750 dollars.

Call your bank ahead of time and speak with a manager who can assure you that your daily limit will be raised. I had to take out a large amount of cash to pay for an apt and was able to take out enough cash in 2 transactions.

The ATM 'knows' your maximum withdrawal per day. If you enter a sum that's higher the machine will notify you.

You enter the amount, of course, in the local currency because that's what the machine is going to spit out.

Having two cards for two different accounts is useful in case you don't get the full amount from one.
You can withdraw only once a day per card/account, no matter how high the amount. Even if you take only 50€, that's it for that particular day.

Also, keep in mind that there is a daily limit from your bank, as well as a limit per withdrawal at the ATM.

I never even came close to withdrawing what my bank's limit was, due to the ATM limit. (Note that I did call my back ahead of time to raise my limit.)

We needed 600E for our apartment in Rome, so we withdrew 300E per day for three days prior to our departure for Rome. That way we had our apartment money, as well as extra cash for daily use.

but, shelly, in most cases, those ATM limits are per transaction, not per day. You can usually stand at the same ATM, and repeat your withdrawal up to your daily bank limit.
