Neckar vs Rhine Valley
I am going to Germany next winter (December ) with my family. My plans are :
12/ 24&25 - Innsbruck (christmas)
12/ 26 - Fussen (castles)
12/ 27 - Rent a car and drive to Rothenburg
12 / 28 - Pass through neckar valley (Schwäbisch Hall, Heillbronn, Bed Wimpfen and Hirschhorn ) and sleep in Heildelberg
12 / 29 - Heildelberg & visit christmas market in speyer
12 / 30 - Pass throught rhine valley and sleep in Frankfurt
12 / 31 - Frankfurt (new year )
01 / 01 - Go home!!
I know thar a lot of atractions of rhine valley will be closed on December and was thinking that sleep in a city like St Goar or Boppard isn´t a good choice on winter, So I would like to know if it´s really a good idea to drive to rhine valley and sleep in frankfurt on the same day (302 km viamichelin).
I just wanted to have a general view of the valley (everybody says its beautiful than neckar valley) and visit markburg or rheinfells without many others stops.

Well, I intensely dislike the Rhine which is now little more than a commercial barge way that has twin German Rail tracks down both banks for much of the "scenic" portion. It was once a mighty river - the castle ruins and a few very pleasant towns along it's course testify to that, but the overall appeal is now completely lost to me.
I think the most scenic portion is south of Stuttgart, which is not an option for your requirement to be in Frankfurt.

Christmas markets end December 23 or December 24.
I would rent the car in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. There is no direct train from Innsbruck to Fuessen (castles. Train Goes to Reutte and you then have to take the bus to get to Fuessen. This way yoiu are renting the car in Germany and drop it off in Germany, saving the cross-border drop-off charges.
There is a direct autobahn from Fuessen (the A-7)to the Rothenburg exit. Takes about 2 1/2 hours, so you can make a couple of possible detours through Ottobeuren (just south of Memminge to visit the basilica there) and the old town of Dinkelsbuehl, south of Rothenburg. I prefer D. over R.Less touristy.
Bad Wimpfen is on the wrong side of the Neckar on your way from Rothenburg to Heidelberg. You want to travel along the Burgenstrasse, on the north side of the Neckar.
Even without Christmas Market, Speyer is well worth an overnight stop. Then drive to Trier, stay overnight there and on the next day drive along the Mosel to Koblenz, then along the Rhein to Frankfurt.
Or, drive Heidelberg to Koblenz. Overnight there. It's a bit larger and offers more in terms of hotels etc. The next day drive along the Rhein to Frankfurt. Stay near airport.

treplow, I had an information that christmas market on speyes ends after December 24. How can I check this?
I also prefer to rent a car in garmisch, but hertz and avis are closed (December 26 is hollday). So I have to rent on fussen (December 27). Do I have to rent a car with winter tyres for this period?
I think that Bad wimpfen is just across a bridge (throught B27), am I wrong?
If I drive to Trier , I think that mosel and rhine is too far from Frankfurt to drive in just one day, don´t you think?
