Naxos/Antiparos

I am confliced on whether to spend a couple of nights in Naxos or Antiparos. Has anyone been to Antiparos - Is there enough to see and do for a couple of days - Good restaurants - beaches ..... Can I take a day trip from Naxos or is it too far?

Also I need to take a ferry to Venice from Patra. The ferry leaves at 23:59. Can I fly directly to Patra from Santorini. If not, how long will it take me to get to Patra from Athens? Thanks!!!

There's no air service to Patras. You can fly to Athens from Santorini but then you'll have to take the train or bus. Most people say the train is too slow.

This link (pdf) should give you all the info you need to do this from the airport. Buses from the airport are very frequent, some every 20 minutes.

Sorry, for some reason Fodor's won't let me paste some links properly. It's not just the highlighted part but the whole thing.

Cathyt, Antiparos is my favorite island. Many people take the ferry from Paros to see the cave or spend the day on one of its many beaches, but Naxos is a bit too far away for a day trip to Antiparos.

Is there enough to see and do for a couple of days? Certainly, but for me Antiparos is more about relaxing on the beach during the day, and enjoying a meal and drinks in the evening at one of the many fine tavernas on the island.

For sightseeing, apart from the cave is a Venetian castle, and there is a small archaelogical site on the nearby uninhabited island of Despotiko. You can also take full-day boat trips around the island.

People who take day trips to Antiparos miss one of its best attributes. It has a pedestrian-only main street, lined with cafes and tavernas, leading from the harbour to the town square. In the evenings people stroll up and down, while children play, and their grandparents sit on their chairs minding them and watching the world go by. Shops are open until late in the evening as well, so the whole island comes to life after dark. Around midnight the nightowls gravitate toward the town square to round out the evening.

The website http://www.islandstrolling.com has excellent photos of Antiparos and many other Greek islands.

Hello-We stayed in both Naxos and Paros, thus the trip to Anti-paros for a couple of nights was convient...we loved both places, as well as Santorini...wandering the streets and exploring quiet beaches was so enjoyable and relaxing...great tavernas and coffee stops. Enjoy!!

Thanks for the help. Can anyone recommend a great place to stay on antiparos with two 17 year olds.

My daughters want to go to Mykonos but I have heard it's not worth it. Have you been there?

Probably the best hotel on the island is http://www.kouros-village.gr/. Hotel Galini is right in the middle of the village, and also popular. There are many others listed on http://www.antiparos-isl.com/index.html. Choose accommodation in Antiparos Village, as other locations are very quiet and may require a car to get around.

Note that accommodation is listed by hotels, rooms, studios, etc. While hotel is self-explanatory, rooms are in small hotels (domatia), usually with private toilet & shower, but few hotel services. Studios are rooms with a kitchenette. You may even be able to find a small apartment with two bedrooms, kithenette, etc.
