Hi everyone. I read that you can use your National rail tickets to take advantage of the 2-for-1 deals.

We arrive London Monday night and plan to take day trips via National Rail to York on Wednesday and Cambridge on Friday. Then on Saturday afternoon leave for Hereford returning back to London the following Tuesday. On the days we are in London, which is Tuesday, Thursday and part of Saturday can I use our National rail tickets to claim the 2-for-1 deals? I plan to buy all our tickets online. Will an email confirmation be enough proof when getting the 2-for1 vouchers? Thank you.

When you buy your tickets online, you DO get an email confirmation that includes a confirmation code. When you get to a train station, you have to punch in the confirmation code at a ticket dispenser. The dispenser will ask you for the credit card you used to purchase the ticket - as a form of ID. Then it will spit out the tickets you need to travel the trains with.

Regarding the 2-for-1 deals, as long as there's a double arrow on the tickets, it's good. However, when you use the 2-for-1 coupon + ticket, you must use the coupon on the same day you're using the train ticket.

i.e. You want to visit the Tower of London on August the 4th - just use the 2-for-1 coupon printed from the website (or taken from the brochure available all over London). You must have the accompanying train ticket that shows the date to be August the 4th as well.

P.S. Some places don't even ask for the tickets at all so you might sneak by if you're using a train ticket that has a different travel date on it. All the 2-for-1 places that I went to asked for my Oyster Card (also valid) + my receipt that showed it to be a 7-day Travelcard. Things have changed I think so maybe someone else can post here with a better reply.

On the Saturday you go to Hereford you can use your ticket to claim the 2for1 offers. On your Tuesday and Thursday in London you'll need to buy one-day travelcards for each day at any national Rail station to qualify for 2for1 offers for those days.

Adding to my previous note. There are some 2for1 offers associated with the Oyster card, but the most extensive ones are offered by National Rail. You need to buy a PAPER travelcard at a National Rail station, not a Tube station, to qualify for them.

2for1 and special offers/admission vouchers are available with almost ANY type of train ticket issued to London on normal 'paper' ticket stock (i.e. not electronic or 'smartcard' but for exceptions see below) and <b>valid on the day you wish to the visit</b> the attraction, theatre, or restaurant, e.g. rail tickets include Day Travelcards, Family Travelcards, Cheap Day Returns, Savers, SuperSavers, Advance Purchase Tickets, Apex, Open tickets, Season Tickets, various promotional travel tickets that may be issued from time to time, etc...

By way of recognition if your travel ticket shows the Double-Arrow (or 'crows-foot') National Rail logo you're safe to assume it is valid. If you are unsure in any way please ask at your local staffed National Rail station.

<b>If you have a valid rail ticket that is valid for more than one day e.g. Saver return to London valid for one month on the return journey, you can use this to visit an attraction within that same one month period of return travel validity. </b>

Thanks for the response. I just thought that since I have all these train tickets that the day in-between the train travels, I can avail of the 2-for-1 discounts.
